Principal Profiles

Edward H. Brownfield, Jr. has been active in the real estate profession since 1971, when he was chosen by the Virginia Association of Realtors as Rookie Salesperson of the Year. In 1977 he founded his own Charlottesville company, which quickly grew into one of the largest residential real estate firms in the area. Mr. Brownfield managed this firm until 1983, when he sold his interest to a partner. He currently owns and operates Edward H. Brownfield, Inc., a commercial firm that sells and leases commercial property in Charlottesville and the central Virginia area.

Mr. Brownfield received his B.S. and MBA degrees from James Madison University. In addition, he holds the professional designations CRB, CRS, GRI and CCIM. As one of only a handful of CCIM's in Charlottesville, he brings to his practice a keen awareness of the investment criteria that must be considered in any real estate transaction. In addition to the training that led to the CCIM designation, he has completed extensive graduate-level education in real estate and finance.

A past president of the Charlottesville and Albemarle Board of Realtors, Mr. Brownfield has also served as a director of the Virginia Association of Realtors. He is a life-long resident of the Charlottesville area and has served on many civic and business boards.

Daniel R. O’Neill began his real estate career in 1979 as a specialist in Virginia farm and estate sales. Among his clients have been purchasers from every region of the United States and several countries overseas. A Certified Buyer Representative and a consistent high-producer, in recent years he has participated in the sale of many of the most significant farm and estate properties in the states, including Mirador (Albemarle County), Grellen Farm (Orange County), Monte Vista Farm (Green County), Four Acres (Charlottesville) and the future site of the Sion Abbey Monastery adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Roanoke.

In addition to his agency work, Mr. O'Neill has been a managing partner in commercial development projects that have brought more than 300,000 square feet of profitable retail, office and industrial space on-line in the Charlottesville area since 1985. In these projects he has been responsible for negotiating anchor tenant leases and permanent financing, including tax-exempt bond issues totaling more than $17 million.

Mr. O'Neill holds a B.A. from Harvard College and an M.A. from Yale University. He was a Visiting Scholar at St. Edmund's House, Cambridge University and a Hoyns Fellow in Creative Writing at the University of Virginia where he has also taught as a lecturer in English. A part-time freelance journalist, Mr. O'Neill has written for the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun and various east coast magazines. He is a native and current resident of Charlottesville, and owns a small mountain-top farm in western Albemarle County.
